Helen Whalen

A teenager, Helen Whalen, relaxes on the snow in downtown Westwood (1940s).

Helen passed in 2023, but her history of Westwood and her stories live on in her book, "Did You Know? Stories and History of Our Hometown of Westwood".

A collection of heartfelt, humorous, and fascinating stories that bring Westwood’s history to life — told by someone who truly lived it.

The book will be available in the train station every Wednesday evening 7:30-8:30, and at our Open House every second Saturday of the month from 10 to 12. Visit to purchase the book, and also to view our exhibits.

Funding for the printing was made possible in part through grant funds administered by Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, Department of Parks, through a General Operating Support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State, reflecting a shared commitment to preserving and promoting local history.
