Our Mission
The Westwood Heritage Society was established in 1988 as a grass roots volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation of the hometown history, beauty and spirit of the Borough of Westwood (NJ).
Since its inauguration, the members of the Society have provided leadership for, and contributions to, a number of projects within the community, including:
- Establishment of the Westwood Museum (located in the Westwood Train Station)
- Restoration of the town's historic Bandstand (located in Veterans' Memorial Park)
- Restoration of the town's first Taxi Stand (the borough's Bus Station until August 2008)
- Veterans Street Flag Project
- Mayor's Portraits Project
- Memorial Plaques Project
- Thurston Onderdonk Collection Project
- The Declaration of Independence of The United States of America Plaque Project
- Coordination of the borough's Annual Pride Day
- Coordination of the borough's Centennial Celebration (1994)
- Research & writing of the borough's Centennial History Journal
- Sponsorship of an Annual Antique Fair
- Sponsorship of an Annual Crafters Fair
- Awarding of its Community Service Scholarship
- Production & distribution of a printed version of the Westwood Community Calendar
